Ask more of your analytics

Start with the question you already have

Go from a traffic overview to the events, conversions, and performance behind it.

Traffic and acquisition

“How many visitors did my website get last week, compared with the week before?”

Compare traffic, explore referrers, and break down your top pages and campaigns.

Events and sessions

“Which pricing plans did people select in the checkout event last month?”

Explore event properties, activity trends, and individual session timelines.

Funnels and goals

“Run my checkout funnel for last month. Where did the largest drop-off happen?”

Run saved or ad-hoc funnels and check progress against your conversion goals.

Journeys and retention

“What are the most common paths visitors take after the pricing page?”

Follow visitor journeys and see how many people return over time.

Revenue and attribution

“Break down revenue by referrer for last month.”

Query recorded revenue and explore first-click or last-click attribution.

Website performance

“Which pages have the worst LCP on mobile?”

Explore Core Web Vitals, performance trends, and device breakdowns.

Connected on your terms

Read-only by design

Your assistant can retrieve analytics. It cannot change settings, create websites, or delete data.

Your existing permissions

Every request goes through the Umami API and respects the website and team access of your API key.

Your choice of assistant

Umami supplies the data. The AI application you connect receives the results and writes the answers.

Get connected

Bring Umami to your assistant

Choose where you run Umami, connect with an API key, and ask your first question.

  1. 1

    Create an API key

    In Umami Cloud, open Settings → API keys and create a key. Copy the complete key, including its api_ prefix.

    The full key is only shown once. Keep it private.

  2. 2

    Connect your assistant

    Add a remote MCP server using Streamable HTTP and bearer authentication. Replace the placeholder key in the example with your own.

    Configuration formats vary by client. Use a client that supports bearer tokens or custom headers, or the local option below.

  3. 3

    Ask your first question

    Start with “Show my websites.” Then choose a website and ask about a specific date range. Your assistant can follow up with breakdowns and comparisons.

      "url": "https://cloud.umami.is/mcp",
      "headers": {
        "Authorization": "Bearer api_<your-cloud-api-key>"
      }
    }
  }
}

Use a local MCP client

For clients that run local stdio servers, install Node.js and use the official @umami/mcp package. This connects directly to the Umami API.

      "env": {
        "UMAMI_API_KEY": "api_<your-cloud-api-key>"
      }
    }
  }
}

Cloud MCP uses API keys on Pro, Business, and Enterprise plans, with the same rate limits as the Cloud API. See pricing for plan details.

Frequently asked questions

What is MCP?

Model Context Protocol is an open standard that lets AI applications use external tools and data. The official Umami MCP server gives your assistant tools for querying analytics through the Umami API.

Which assistants can I connect?

Use Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, or another MCP client with support for remote Streamable HTTP and bearer authentication or custom headers. Available connection options depend on the client. Clients that run local stdio servers can use the official @umami/mcp package instead.

What data can my assistant access?

The tools cover traffic, events, sessions, funnels, goals, journeys, retention, attribution, revenue, performance, annotations, and saved segments. Results depend on what your website tracks and what your API key can access. Session replay recordings, heatmaps, and boards are not available through MCP.

How can I check an answer?

Ask your assistant to state the website, date range, and filters it used, then compare the result with the matching report in Umami. Umami provides the data; the accuracy of the interpretation depends on your assistant.

How do I disconnect an assistant?

Delete its API key under Settings → API keys. Access is tied to the key, so revoking it stops further requests using that key.
